How to Organize Lots of Information on a Website

When many of our clients come to us for a website overhaul, their current websites have lots and lots of information– the information just isn’t organized effectively.  So you may ask, “What is the best way to organize lots of information on a website?”

Well here at Prime Concepts Group, we start by creating a wireframe of the current website– how the navigation is organized, how the pages fall, etc.  This helps us get a good idea of what we’re working with.  Next, we review all the web copy and content, and then develop a new wireframe.  Typically, we try to identify main categories– these may be categorized by the types of solutions our client offers or the format in which the client offers the solutions.

For one of our current clients, project management expert Dr. James Brown of Seba Solutions, we identified his solution as project management training and his formats as: public events, onsite workshops, online course for project managers and engineers and products.

We included “Project Management Training” as the first option in his main navigation, which directed visitors to the directory-style landing page you see above.  Next, we made sure there we created “funnels” on the Seba Solutions homepage with four of his main solution formats.

The benefit to creating directory-style landing pages and clear funnels throughout your website is that you are able to organize lots of information in an effective, user-friendly format.

Check out Dr. Brown’s new website at www.SebaSolutions.com for more examples, or click on the image above to see the specific directory-style page we referenced.  Do you have more ideas for organizing lots of information on a website?  Let us know in the comments below!
